Kirby: Kirby Park

This is the entrance to Kirby Park. Kirby Park is located immediately across the Market Street Bridge from downtown Wilkes-Barre. This park is meant to be Wilkes-Barre's version of New York City's Central Park and is an example of the City Beautiful movement from the early twentieth century. The park was built in 1921 and has been used ever since for numerous events such as high school cross country races, personal exercise, and various other recreational activities. This picture was taken by Jeff Plonsky at 3:00 p.m. on October 3, 2005.
