Teaching: Graduate instruction - Laboratory course on Plant Genetic Engineering, Graduate Seminar in Forestry; and lectures courses IN Forest Biotechnology, Advances in Tree Genetics. Also, Research Supervisor for 7 Ph.D. students, 6 M.Sc. students, and 9 post-doctoral fellows. Undergraduate instruction - Directed Studies research projects for 13 Honors Biology majors, Forest Genetics lecture course, tree improvement section of Silviculture course, and an Honors section of Conservation Genetics.

Areas of Research Interest: Genome Mapping in Trees- Genetic linkage mapping, DNA fingerprinting and chromosome mapping by in situ hybridization. Genetic Engineering in Trees - Gene transfer for lignin modification and phytoremediation. Genetic Diversity - Estimation of variability in forest species using DNA markers. Gene Expression - Characterizing genes differentially expressed in woody plants during development, stress or lignin synthesis.

Grants Held: Genetic linkage mapping and marker assisted selection for tree improvementî Forest Renewal B. C., $302,000 per year, 1996 to 1999. "Insect resistance in Fraser fir." PA Dept. of Agriculture, $70,000. 1999 - 2001
