- For Phase III do we need another annotated bibliography and how is that different from the reference lists? You
are not going to create another annotated bibliography (you have one
from phase I and one from phase II). With the paper, you will
have a reference list at the end of the paper which should be in
numberical order based on the order in which the reference was used in
the article. Use a superscript in the paper to number your
refrences. If some of your articles from the annotated
bibliography were ultimately not needed in your paper - that's OK.
- Shouldn't there be a way the person who does the most work gets more credit. Excellent
point. However, in most group work later in life we don't get
"extra" for being a leader or the workhorse. With that said, if a
member of your group is clearly below par, there is a mechanism for the
faculty to deduct points.
- I'd like to know how my peers evaluated me. This
is tough. Next year with WebCT I may try to work this into the
process. I think we need to maintain anonymity though.
- I got some points deducted from my peer evaluations because I gave everyone equal waiting, why? In group work, rarely is work spread evenly. If most of the team members indicated imbalances in workload (which is normal) and
you didn't, it suggests you did not take that part of the assigment
seariously. If most of them members indicated fairly even
workload, points were not deducted.
- Can you give examples from "good" projects from previous years? Answer:
This might seem like a reasonable request but there certainly are
disadvanages to the learning process. First, having an example
tends to limit creativity (if it worked for them, lets do it their
way!). Secondly, students learn from their mistakes, using an
example frankly limits wrong turns. Finally, many topics are the
same and that makes no sense.
- I don't get the purpose of these projects, what's up? Answer: We
want to get you to work as a team. Further, the topics allow you
to learn more about pharmacy and health care and also introduces you to
literature retrieval and interpretation. Certainly, improving
writing skills is a major component of the project.
- Our team is finding we would do better in different roles. Can we switch roles? Answer. Absolutely. This is not uncommon in team development. Just let us know.
- I got a note on my evaluation form that my team members said I'm not contributing enough. What am I to do? Answer:
Self-assess. If there is some truth to it, start working more
with the team. No student was so "bad" that they lost credit (but
it is possible later in the project to lose points from the total
project due to innactivity).
- What will happen to some of the suggestions that we make to faculty on these forms? We
look at all recommendations/suggestions seriously. We will likely
take some recommendations (allowing students to chose topics) and will
need to think about others (giving in-class time to do work).
