What is Science in Motion?

· Science partnership between area secondary schools and Wilkes University

· Funded by the Pennsylvania General Assembly

· Administered by the Pennsylvania Department of Education

· Based on the science outreach program pioneered by Dr. Don Mitchell at Juniata College

Educational Benefits

· Mobile Educator can present labs utilizing high tech instrumentation to science students

· Mobile Educator can drop-off/pick-up instrumentation and labs as requested

· Development of an improved science curriculum by having labs available to compliment lecture topics that were previously too expensive

· Access to adequate resources (instrumentation and materials) by all area school districts

· Students can access equipment for projects/competition under teacher supervision

· NO COST to the school districts or teachers

Faculty Benefits

· Lab and equipment specific mini-workshops offered in afternoon, evening or in-service days

· One week workshop in June that teachers are compensated and receive ACT 48 credit

· Provides faculty development in modern scientific techniques

· Teachers can implement new curriculum materials while maintaining their daily schedule

· Teachers can design labs around our equipment to their curriculum

· Funds for faculty development activities (meetings,seminars,workshops)
