More information
on M42
| M42 exposure/composite experiment: This image is a composite of three separate image sets. Two sets of 10 image frames (each 17 seconds) were taken of different parts of the M42. A third set of 10 frames of 1 second each were taken of the central trapezium section to serve as a mask. The first two frames were combined to form a larger composite, and the mask frame was applied.
Dark frame processing, image alignment, and stacking was done with
Dave Allmon's DarkGen program.
Final processing performed with Photoshop.

100 sec (20x 5 sec.) exposure from home using the 8" Newtonian.
The goal with this image was to reduce blooming in the trapezium to the
lowest level while still capturing some nebulosity.

The same 100 sec (20x 5 sec.) exposure reprocessed with additional masking and sharpening functions applied.
