Program Mission
The goal of the Writing Fellows Program is to establish a collaborative network of faculty and students engaged in teaching, learning, and research that facilitates writing across the disciplines.
This endeavor is traditional yet pioneering in its methodology. It is theoretically informed and praxis oriented. In addition to the services commonly offered by the Writing Center--on site/online writing consultation--the learning network envisioned by this project coordinates a new tutor-training course with an expanded Writing Fellows program.
This pairing accomplishes a number of goals simultaneously. It will train writing consultants, coach under-prepared first-year writers, assist faculty who teach Writing Intensive courses, facilitate collaborative writing/research, and foster the development of writing-to-learn pedagogy across campus. The structure created by this network will join faculty and students in work that spans the disciplines as it prepares Fellows, and the students they serve, for employment in collaborative environments--not only in the Writing Center but also after graduation--in corporate, government, and academic settings where such networks are increasingly important.
