Irene

by Debbie Yedinak

This is to my friend Irene,
     A woman I've admired, a woman serene.
A lady so thoughtful, so genuine so true,
always a smile, stern words just weren't you!

You win the gold star
     for keeping it together,
Your name shall be a part
     of that department forever.

A secretary and teacher
     and baby-sitter too,
A right hand and confidante
were some of the labels on you.

The weddings and the new born
you were a part of them all.
The second mom for many
     who were away from home!

What I will remember
     is all our little talks.
The ten minutes out of the day
when we would make Wilkes stop!

The recipes and helpful hints
     the stories of vacations.
The griefs and pleasures of our lives
     we shared with compilation.

You will be missed make no mistake,
have a good life with the memories you take!!

Irene Cocco retired on July 31, 1995 after 20 plus years as the secretary in the Mathematics and Computer Science Department. She joins her husband Jim in his retirement. Irene saw it all and revealed little of it! She is sorely missed and beloved by all who came through her office. Enjoy your retirement, Irene!
