ED 526 Internet Literacy for Educators
This course will explore developmentally appropriate teaching and learning opportunities that are available to classroom teachers via the Internet. Students will learn to use various types of electronic communications including the development of curriculum web sites that address content standards and student technology standards. The use of technology to communicate with peers, parents and the larger community to nurture student learning will be explored. The safe and healthy use of technology resources to facilitate equitable access of resources for all students will be endorsed. Research of best practice regarding online pedagogy will be examined.
Student Learning Objectives

- research and identify effects the Internet has had on the world
and on education
- identify various methods of connecting to the Internet
- demonstrate the use of a web browser
- demonstrate the effective use of directories and search engines
for finding information on the Internet
- investigate educational uses of email
- describe and identify online collaboration tools, asynchronous
communication tools and how they are used in classrooms
- evaluate and document Internet information
- develop and communicate a lesson or student activity that is
enhanced by the use of Internet resources
- demonstrate the ability to create a curriculum web page aligned
to content standards.
- demonstrate the ability to communicate electronically with peers,
parents and the larger community
- promote the safe and healthy use of technology resources
- evaluate various theories and best practices of online pedagogy
- locate and demonstrate effective use of video streaming, video
clips, and images to create lessons that meet curriculum standards
Required Assignment
Students will produce a webpage or WebQuest. The webpage or WebQuest
will:
- incorporate graphics that are appropriate to the theme of the
webpage
- demonstrate the generally accepted elements of good design
- be composed of links and content that have the potential to
enable and empower learners with diverse backgrounds, characteristics
and abilities
