Instructions for Students Uploading Work

Congratulations and welcome to the Wilkes 2000 English 101 Student Work pages.

The first time you make a "Story" (webpage that links from here), you must "Join Now" by clicking on the left-hand box, "Join Now," and filling in the information requested. Use the e-mail address Dr. Bormann uses for you (e-mail her with ones to add, if you are not in the system). You can make any password you want. Now you need to "Log In" using the same e-mail address and password. In future you just "Log In" to add and edit "Stories," "Pictures," and "Gems," as Contributing Editors.

Now you need to make yourself a "Story" by clicking on the "Stories" heading which will have appeared above (along with the headings for Pictures and Gems) after you are logged in. Then "Create a New Story." That story will be your webpage. You can give it any title you want. If you are simply uploading a word document (ex. poem you wrote) you copy and paste the material in the "Text" box and hit "Post Changes" to see the page as it will appear to others. To add links, type URL, ex. our homepage: http://course.wilkes.edu/bormann/233. It will become a link automatically. To add a picture or gem (see my End of Semester ENG 233 Calendar as an example of how to link to more complicated charts or materials in other programs, like MS Word), you must give it a title and location first above, by hitting "Pictures" or "Gems" and following the directions. Later, you type quotation marks around the title you gave it within the "Text" box of your story to put the picture in or the link to the gem (it tells you to do this when you create the new Picture or Gem). If you have a webpage program, like Netscape Composer which converts your file to html, you can view the source and copy and paste (from between the <body> notations) in your Story's "text" box.

  • Visit the Getting Started page on the Manila-Newbies site. It provides an overview and introduction to the different kinds of projects you can do with Manila. The Manila-Newbies site is there to help you work with Manila and to learn from each other.

  • Finally, please bookmark your specific Story page. This is your website. Be sure you can find it again.
