In the E! Group we decided to interview some of the actors in Wilkes University‚s production of Julius Caesar on how they felt William Shakespeare is entertaining and how he applies to pop culture. We got some great answers from some of the cast.
When asking Tiffany Smith, junior who is playing Cassius in Wilkes‚ production what she felt was entertaining about Shakespeare, she said „ The language, and because of the interesting way he uses it to express emotion.‰ Rob Stowe, junior playing Mark Anthony said „ Poetry and language, how it pertains to every day life.‰ I agree with Rob and Tiffany that language is the most entertaining. It is entertaining because not only does he write it to show the emotion as Tiffany said but also he writes showing the human condition, which I find very interesting as most actors do.
This led into our next question. Is Shakespeare used today in Pop culture? Rob went on to say „You could relate it to everything.‰ Tiffany said „ I think it stands alone.‰ We also interviewed Phil Gibons, senior, playing Julius Caesar. He said that „It transcends time, the depth and language is not locked into any specific time.‰ I agree with all of them in the sense that it does stand alone as Tiffany has said but it also transcends time as Phil said as well.
I believe the reason why an actor likes Shakespeare works so much is because of the answers they gave me. The language and the way his themes pertain to every day life. How if you are in a production or directing a production you can set it in any time period. That is why I love performing it so much. It‚s no hold bar when your doing Shakespeare you can do anything and it will be great.
