Bacon Bits of Criticism

Do you ever read Shakespeare and say to yourself, 'I know the play is supposed to be seen one way, but I see it a different way!'

Well, stop thinking that you are just not getting it. Shakespeare's works are open to interpretation by readers, viewers, and even directors.

We are going to show you just a few of the ways in which Julius Caesar can be interpreted, and how you, too, can be a critic.Click on any of the links below to see different perspectives of the play. The last link shows how each literary perspective will make the play different once on stage.

Also, remember that these interpretations are our own with our own ideas (and some ideas found from research). This means, for example, that one feminist reading may be completely different from another feminist reading.

So, take a look around and see what you can find. Please feel free to agree or disagree--after all, that's what critics do!
